If it's a budgetary decision, then you're better off having it printed online and mailed to you.Epson’s resin inks have an advanced ink chemistry. If you enjoy printing at home, it's worth it. I've been using an Epson SureColor P800 and it has been rock solid. I'm retired and find home printing to be a good thing for me.You'll have to wait for the quote, but after repairing one valve, what's to prevent another valve from going bad.or will they replace all the valves? 12 years is a good run for any printer. I know this not an objective sort of decision, but I'm curious what others that print at home might do in this situation. The Epson SureColor P700 printer is $800 but has been on market for a few years. I'm waiting for an actual quote but I'm finding these repairs could run about as much as a replacement. I can still print with matte, but that's just not my favorite. To the point: Apparently the valve for the photo black has finally met its "5 year" limit and crapped out. Much as I would like to be doing my own printing, I simply cannot justify the cost with the low volume I am doing right now. In the years since I have done relatively little printing using a commercial lab in town. But other colours were low on their ink as well, so further replacement of inks would probably have been required just to complete the head cleaning. What finally killed the printer for me was a need to clean the heads a few months afterwards which required, because of low ink, the replacement one of the ink reservoirs (about $75 CAD at that time). That's why the entire show was printed on matte paper quite successfully I might add. The P800 was on sale then for about $800 CAD but being retired, I didn't want the cost of either the repair or a new printer. The whole print head had to be replaced, along with a flushing out of all the ink in the system and a reloading with fresh ink at additional cost over the repair. I took a photo on my phone of the results and went to a nearby Epson service centre for a repair estimate. When I tried that, the printer spewed black ink all over the paper. I was going to print on their Photo Rag Pearl paper which required the photo black ink. Four years ago I mounted a show of 30 of my Montreal photographs, all printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag matte paper they were 11 x 14 inch prints. I bought my 3880 in 2008 or 2009, I think, and it served me well during the years it was operational.
